When I travel, I almost always shoot with medium and large format cameras. Most of the images in my travel series were shot on my Graflex Crown Graphic camera. While shooting with this camera means limited chances to correctly compose and expose a shot (and it is far less discreet than smaller digital cameras), I find overcoming the challenges even more rewarding when the film comes back from the lab. When shooting film, I am more attuned to composition, quality of light, and perfect moments to release the shutter. I am more selective and responsive. Everything in the scene, from the perspective, depth of field, color, and quality of light looks distinctively different from a digital image. I believe shooting large format provides more detailed and stable landscape, architecture, and interior scenes from my travels abroad.
